Current Favourite Lip Combo

I have been loving this lip combo recently and it's not one you would have thought about putting together. I love rummaging through my makeup collection and finding what other products i can incorporate back into my everyday makeup routine.

A few months back, i was continuously using the Hourglass Aura Sheer Lip Stain in Flush (review here) and i loved it, but i wanted to add a bit of oomph to my lips without it looking OTT for work.

I am obsessed with the Clinique Chubby Sticks....and i have tried quite a few versions of the chubby sticks from other brands, but the ones from Clinique are just so much better from the rest! I guess there's a reason why Clinique came out with it first.

What i have been doing recently, is using the Hourglass stain on my lips and then applying the 'whole lotta honey' chubby stick over it. The colour that you get from wearing both the stain and the chubby stick is gorgeous and isn't too overpowering. For me, i think sometimes stains can look a bit blah on the lips. By layering the chubby stick over the stain, gives it a more unique shade but one that is still wearable for everyday.

I feel that you get the best of both worlds, so you have the beautiful berry lip stain, but you also have the glossiness and hydration from the chubby stick, without having to use a gloss. I have been asked quite a lot what i have been wearing on my lips, so thought i would share it with you guys!

Do you have any favourite lip combos?

The Back Ups

A few weeks ago, i read a post by Rebecca from Be Beautiful and she was talking about her back up products and i thought it was something i could share with you guys. I think there's quite a few of us who always have a small stash of back up products, in the fear of running out. Also, because i live in the middle of nowhere, it's not easy to just pop to the shops to purchase a new product.

I always ensure i have a MAC Cleanse Off Oil, because it is one of my favourite pre-cleanse products. For several years now, i have been double cleansing at night and my skin feels much more cleaner. It is super gentle and removes pretty much everything, however i still use a second cleanser afterwards. Another cleanser that is always floating around is my Liz Earle Hot Cloth Cleanse and Polish. This is a cleanser i always go back to, even after trying and finishing other products. It's handy knowing a have a spare!

The Make Up Forever Smoky Lash mascara is certainly one i will always have a back up of! This is my holy grail mascara and does a wicked job at making my eyelashes look thick, full, long and without looking spidery or clumpy. I picked my first one up at IMATS and then purchased the back up when i was in New York. This mascara isn't the easiest to get hold of here in the UK, so i may end up purchasing a few more at the next IMATS.

A couple of other makeup bits have to be the MAC Strobe Lotion and the YSL Touche Eclat. Many of you know that even with my greasy skin, i love looking radiant and dewy and the strobe lotion is the perfect product for that (full review here). For the last 8 months or so, i have been an avid user of the YSL Touche Eclat and i have to say it's one of the best products for brightening up under the eyes (review here). I picked up a duo pack from duty free when i was flying to New York, so i know this is going to last me a while!

The Body Shop Tea Tree Body Wash is something that i have at least a couple of! I tend to purchase this when i have a discount code from the Body Shop and believe me when i say i buy in bulk! It is one of my favourite shower gels and keeps my skin fresh and clean. I love using this after i have been to the gym, because it is so refreshing to use!

I honesty thought it was just me that always had a back up of products and i always get teased for hoarding by my sister! It's good to know that there are others out there!

What are you back ups?

MAC Stereo Rose Is Back.......

Ok, so it's not back right now, however the MSF that has had every makeup junkie obsessed will be returning to our shores on March 6th in the Fantasy of Flowers Collection.

I couldn't get around how overly hyped Stereo Rose was, but it has to be one of the most unique MSF's that MAC has ever released. Maybe that's one of the reasons that it sells for extortionate prices on eBay when it's actually sold out?!

Stereo Rose has been in my collection for a while now and i have mainly used MAC MSF's as a highlighter, this one however, is a combination of a blush and a highlighter. It is a deep coral colour with gold and bronze running through it, complimenting all skin tones.

The formula is exactly the same as the other MAC MSF's, giving the skin radiance and colour, without looking sparkly. It is much more pigmented than the other MSF's in the range, which is why a lot of people like wearing it as a blush and i can understand the popularity of it. Do you need another blush/highlighter in your collection.....certainly not, but I'm guessing every girl is going to want one!

I thought i would give you guys a heads up, as i know this will probably be sold out online and in stores very quickly!

Will you be purchasing MAC's Stereo Rose?

Back To Eyeliner | Illamasqua Precision Gel Liner

Since having a fringe cut, my simple makeup wasn't exactly cutting the look and for several months i haven't really worn eyeliner to work......i guess i was just being lazy! I have now decided that i need to change up my makeup to suit my hair style. I didn't realize how different i would look with bangs!

I was thinking the easiest way to add some definition is to go back to using gel eyeliner. Personally, i think gel liner can make all the difference to the face, and you don't really need to add anything to it. I decided on trying the Illamasqua Precision Gel Liner and wanted to see if it's just as good as my beloved Bobbi Brown Gel Liner.

The Illamasqua Precision Gel Liner comes in a standard pot with 5g of product, which is actually a pretty generous amount! The Bobbi Brown Gel Liner is £17.50 for 3g, so for 50p more you get an additional 2g.....not bad eh?

When i first applied this to my lids....OMG! It glided on in the silkiest way! The formula isn't too thick or thin....just the right consistency.  It is a very smooth and creamy and extremely pigmented. I think it is on par with either the Bobbi Brown or MAC liners.

Before i purchased this liner, i had read on some blogs that it was streaky and uneven, however i haven't found that, but I think it does depend on which brush is used to apply the liner. To be honest it shows as a very deep black on my lid and sometimes i apply another layer to make it more intense. You can see how the eyeliner has worn from the picture below (apologies for the crappy iphone picture). I put this on around 7.30am and the photo was taken around 8pm that evening. It has slightly worn under the flick, but with my oily skin I'm pretty impressed with how long it lasted!

My overall thoughts is that this is a fab liner and i would certainly pick this one over my Bobbi liner purely because you get more for ya buck and it performs just as good as other high end liners.

Illamasqua Precision Gel Liner retails for £18 and can be picked up HERE.

Have you got a favourite gel liner?

REN Glycolactic Radiance Renewal Mask Review

I am loving the REN skincare range and have been avidly using the ClearCalm 3 Cleanser (review coming soon) and for those wanting brighter, radiant skin and any nasty blockages on the face gone, then this is the little miracle worker for you.

This mask is basically radiance and brightness in a bottle, it's not really a mask but more of a treatment peel. Don't worry, it's not one of those peels where your face ends up looking tomato red, and yes, we all remember when Samantha from Sex and the City had that chemical peel!

It is a thick orange gel and kinda reminds me of the Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour Cream consistency. It has a warm, fruity scent and normally 2 or 3 pumps is enough to cover the entire face.

I don't have sensitive skin, however i did feel a slight tingling sensation on my face. It didn't feel uncomfortable nor painful, although i would be cautious if you have sensitive skin. I'm so bad when it comes to masks, because i always try to leave a face mask on for the recommended time, however i get distracted and it always ends up being longer! To remove the mask, i wipe it away with a wet muslin cloth.

How does my skin feel afterwards? Extremely soft and radiant! I tend to use the mask at night, so i see more of a difference the next morning. I have noticed that my acne scars have faded a lot, and there's very little flakiness around my nose. My skin just appears much more even and it certainly reduces the amount of congestion and blackheads on my t-zone. I tend to use this as and when my skin needs a pick me up, or when it feels a bit congested. I find that the bottle lasts much longer this way.

REN Glycolactic Radiance Renewal Mask retails at £30, which is pretty steep. Nonetheless, it is one i would recommend and repurchase because i don't think anyone can be disappointed by this gem.

Have you tried this mask? Thoughts?

Hourglass Opaque Rouge Liquid Lipstick Icon Review

Happy Thursday everyone! You guys are probably thinking why on earth am i so chipper....one more day until the weekend!

Now, we know that there are so many liquid lipsticks available, whether it's from the drugstore or more higher end brands. Today i wanted to share my thoughts about the Hourglass Opaque Rouge Liquid Lipstick in Icon.

I picked this up back in the summer from Liberty's and wanted to give it a proper use before i spoke about this lipstick.

I adore this beautiful, sleek packaging and i think it's the perfect size to pop into your handbag or when you're on the go. I do have to admit that it is pretty dinky for the price that you pay. It comes with a doe foot applicator, however i still end up using a lip brush to give my lips a more sharper shape.

With all liquid lipsticks you have to ensure that your lips are properly prepped and primed. I either like to use MAC Prep + Prime for lips or the Nuxe Reve De Miel Lip Balm. I would recommend using anything matte because if your lips are a bit greasy, the lip colour will slide off.

This liquid lipstick goes on so smoothly and dries quite quickly. I normally line my lips using the MAC Lip Pencil in Cherry and then apply two coats of this product. I wait for one coat to dry and then apply another because my lips look super bold and red!

Icon is a blue toned red and seems much deeper when layered. This is one of those shades that will make your teeth look whiter!

This product has impressed me quite a bit because this didn't dry out my lips and the lipstick stayed on for about 6+ hours, even though i was eating and drinking. I always find that you have to keep an eye on your lips when you're wearing bolder colours and sometimes you just want to enjoy what you're doing without having to check in the mirror every 5 minutes!

At £23 i wouldn't say it's a must have, as there are many drugstore alternatives, however Icon is such a unique shade of red and brightens up your face instantly. I have a couple of other shades, however they will be en route to my lips in the spring or summer, so i will keep you all updated!

Have you tried the liquid lipsticks from Hourglass?

Miniature Beauty Products

I love miniature sized products, who doesn't right? The fact that these iddy biddy little products are not only fabulous for travelling, but also gives you a chance to try out some products. The worst is when you have purchased a full sized product and ended up not liking it.

When i was in New York, i was in awe of the caddies beside the tills, which had an endless amount of miniature products from skincare, to nails, to makeup. I find that here in the UK, the only way to get pocket sized products is either from gift with purchase, or if a sales assistant is generous enough to give you a couple of free samples. Nonetheless, in New York they were super generous with samples, but you also had the option to purchase the travel size product from Sephora and Ulta.

The other way to try out new products is when you receive a deluxe travel size with a full sized product. The Lorac Behind The Scenes Eye Primer came with the Lorac Pro Palette, and i am eager to see how it compares to my other eye primers from Tarte and Urban Decay.

I was fortunate enough to be given the following minis and you can see that these are pretty generous sizes, and will be perfect for popping into my travel bag.

  • Tarte Maracuja Oil
  • Buxom Full Bodied Lip Gloss (Katie)
  • Make Up Forever Rouge Artist Natural (N9)
  • Make Up Forever Smoky Extravagant Mascara
  • Benefit Pore Professional

Do you have any miniature products?

Getting Back Into Eyeshadow

Some of you may know that having a 9-5 job doesn't really leave you to be experimental with makeup in the morning and i have always chosen to have an extra 15 minutes in bed instead of carefully selecting makeup to wear for the day.

I guess i have kinda fallen into a makeup rut and haven't worn eyeshadow to work in months. Now, i am not talking about super smoky eyes here, but just a soft wash of eyeshadow and some definition to either the lash line or the socket.

One thing about me is that i love my eye makeup when i go out, but i am the complete opposite when heading to work. Having the makeup collection that i do, with the huge array of shadows and finishes, makes it almost impossible to get ready on time in the morning.

I have decided that i will pre-select some subtle shades that are suitable for work, and pop them into my makeup bag instead of having to rummage around my makeup drawers! Now, i haven't chosen a huge selection, but these are the ones that i have forgotten about and also new eyeshadows in my collection.

The first set i have chosen is from the Tarte Gorgeous Getaways Collection 2013. I received this as a birthday present when i was in New York and i'm so pleased that Martha gave it to me! This is the palette in the bottom right of the set. I love how there is a blush that is complimentary to the eyeshadows.

Left-Right: Serengeti Sand, Buckingham Palace, Rocky Mountains, Bordeaux, Ambitious

The other palette has to be the NARS And God Created The Woman Palette, which has the ideal colours that are suitable for work. I love how there is a mixture of shimmers and mattes. The full blog post can be found HERE.

Left-Right: Alhambra, Bellisima, Kalahari, Galapagos, Coconut Grove, Night Clubbing.

I actually feel excited about using eyeshadows in the morning again......does that make me sound a tad bit sad?! Oh well! Hopefully this will teach me to use what i have, instead of going out and buying the next palette!! With luck i will be able to get out of bed a bit earlier, instead of pressing snooze all the time! I will keep you guys updated on how it's going and maybe i will try to incorporate other products that i'm not using.

Are you trying to get back to using some products?

The Perfect Highlighter | Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed Opal

I am obsessed with using highlighters, however there is a very fine line between looking glowy and greasy! For someone who does have oily skin, i have to be very careful in the type of highlighters i use but also where i apply it on my face.

I have a couple of the Becca Shimmering Skin Perfectors and wanted to try out the pressed version. There are three shades to choose from and i picked up Opal. When i swatched this in Sephora, it felt so silky to apply. There wasn't anything gritty or glittery about the formula.

Opal applies beautifully onto the skin and is completly different to all the other highlighters in my collection. It feels almost velvety on the skin. I either apply this with a brush or with my fingers to the high points of my face, to give the skin a healthy glow. I do avoid my nose, as it will make it look super oily!

I have read a few reviews where some people found this too glittery, however on olive, asian, tanned skin tones, it looks stunning. The highlighter is extremely pigmented and has to be applied with a very light hand, otherwise you would look like a glitter ball!

I have found that this highlighter catches the light in the most beautiful way and the skin just appears so radiant and healthy. Opal appears as a light, golden champagne on my skin tone and i have noticed most opal shades have a bit more pink to them, apart from this one.

For me this is a stunning highlighter and i love glow that it gives to the skin. Some people may think this is glittery, but i honestly do think this has to be applied in the right way. I am tempted to check out Moonstone, however the only downside is that it can only be picked up online from Space NK.

Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed retails at £30 and is exclusive to Space NK.

Have you tried any of the shimmering skin perfector?

The Meh Products

These are the products that haven't really wowed me or had me rushing out to purchase more from the range. I have realized that us bloggers get carried away with the hype, and the moment you take the product home and try it, you're left a tad bit disappointed. I guess we all have to live and learn, right?

*KIKO Soft Light Powder 06

Powders are an essential item in an oily girls makeup bag and this powder didn't really wow me or help control the oil on my skin. To be honest it didn't actually do anything! The colour is extremely sheer and is meant to give a radiance look to the skin, but dusting this over my face, i couldn't see any difference. I thought this might have been a dupe for the MAC Mineralize Skinfinish Natural but it wasn't anywhere close to it!

Smashbox Halo Long Wear Blush Peachy Dream

The colour of this blush is gorgeous but the packaging of this blush sucks! It is a grinding type mechanism and is meant to only shaves off the right amount of product. However, you are left with a lot of remaining product and when left in my makeup bag, the powder goes everywhere even though the lid is firmly shut! This is one you can not take travelling or keep in your handbag, as it will just create too much mess.

Urban Decay Primer Potion Sin

I love the UDPP and when they released the extended shades i ended picking one up, however i should have just stuck to the original. Yes, this has amazing staying power and does everything the original primer potion does, but it changes how eyeshadows appear on the lid! This primer is much more shimmery, so any eyeshadows that go onto the lid become shimmery. Imagine putting a shimmery eyeshadow on top of a shimmery base.....i look like a disco ball! This isn't something that i wanted in a primer and i didn't realize how much it can change the eyeshadow sitting on top of it.

*Clarins 3-Dot Liner

So many bloggers were raving about this item and when i first got it i couldn't figure out how to use it! I am an avid user of gel liner, but i found this eyeliner extremely difficult to use and it even took me longer! I couldn't get the perfect cat eye, as i couldn't drag the tip like a normal eyeliner and it just looked uneven! I can understand the concept of this eyeliner for beginners, but i don't think it's one for people who are comfortable using liquid or gel liners.

NYX Mega Shine Lip Gloss Beige

Again, another hyped product! I should have realized that the majority of people raving about this particular shade were a completely different skin tone to me! This 'Beige' shade made me look ill! It is a gorgeous soft pink in the tube, but on my lips and against my skin tone, it just appeared a very blue pink. Beige isn't really a beige and doesn't compliment darker skin tones.

*KIKO Cosmic Light Eyeshadow Palette Hyperreal Taupe

I was excited to try out this product but the eyeshadows wasn't the same pigmented quality that KIKO are known for. I swatched this several times and the two outer shades were just too shimmery to work with and it didn't sit on the skin. As soon as i swatched it, then rubbed my hand over it, the colour just disappeared! The eyeshadows look gorgeous in the palette but didn't come across like that once applied.

Some of these products i will still carry on using, such as the Smashbox blush because i love how the actual product is, and others will end up in the goodbye pile.
